Carl Anthony Redus Jr. was sworn in as the 35th
mayor of Pine
Bluff, Arkansas, on January 3, 2005. A
native Pine Bluffian, he was educated in the public schools and earned a
Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from AM&N College (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) in 1971.
His educational pursuits led him to Atlanta, Georgia, where in May of 1973 Clark Atlanta University School of Business awarded him an MBA degree with a concentration in finance. He furthered his studies at the New York Institute of Finance and the Wharton School of Banking Operations.
Developing relationships with senior-level executives throughout the southern states and the New York banking market for 30 years, he was consistently recognized and rewarded for superior sales leadership. Although he cultivated his skills in the corporate environment, his desire to fulfill personal entrepreneurial goals led him to the field of real estate.
Community involvement has been as much a part of his life as business and he has lent his talents and energies to such organizations as the Character Council of Southeast Arkansas, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP, Lifetime member), the UAPB Foundation Board, Pine Bluff Downtown Development, Inc., and the Executive Committee of the Arkansas Municipal League.
In June 6, 2005, Pine Bluff, Arkansas became the 2nd city in Arkansas to become smoke-free a notable event for a minority majority community. Mayor Redus and the City of Pine Bluff are recipients of the 2005 Arkansas Cancer Coalition Fay W. Boozman, M.D. Community Service Award. Mayor Redus was an honored recipient of the 2004-2005 American Cancer Society, Mid-South Division, Inc., Elected Official Life Saver Award. In June of 2006, Mayor Redus was elected the Arkansas Municipal League’s District 4 Vice President and identified by PowerPlay Magazine as one of 25 extraordinary African-Americans in Arkansas.
He and his wife, Trudy, are the parents of a four-year-old son, and he is the father of an adult daughter currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia.
