Jefferson County Hazard Mitigation Plan

Jefferson County, AR, the incorporated municipalities of Althiemer, Humphrey, Pine Bluff, Redfield, Sherrill, Wabbaseka, and White Hall, the public school districts for Dollarway, Pine Bluff, Watson Chapel, and White Hall, Southeastern Arkansas College, and the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff have updated the 2006 hazard mitigation plan.  The plan focuses on reducing the risk of loss of life, injury, and property damage due to hazards such as severe storms, winter storms, and floods.  This plan also identifies specific actions that can be undertaken to minimize or eliminate these vulnerabilities.  These projects can be implemented as funding becomes available.  This plan is a requirement for eligibility for federal mitigation grant programs, including the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP).

 

Each year, millions of federal hazard mitigation grant dollars are made available to eligible applicants via programs such as the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) and the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program (PDM).  With an approved hazard mitigation plan, the participating jurisdictions are eligible to apply for these competitive grand funds.

 

As part of the development process, and in compliance with 44 CFR, part 201, we are requesting that the public review this plan, and submit any comments or suggestions on the document.  The plan may be viewed at the following location:
